Find Links
Specific links can be located within a file using the NetVisualize search functionality.
There are multiple ways to identify links within a file including by terms in the title, Notes Panel, and Internet URL and by rating.
Search By Terms
To search a file for links containing specific terms that may appear in the title, Notes Panel, or Internet URL, type the terms in the search memo and click on the
(find next) or
(find all) buttons or the corresponding options in the Edit menu. Additionally, the user may exclude a particular term from the search by typing the word "not" in front of the term to be excluded. For example, "not engine" would be used to find links that do not contain the word "engine" in the title, Notes Panel, or Internet URL.
Search By Rating
A numeric rating can be assigned to each link or folder using the Rating Bar, which is located on the Details Panel. Special syntax is required for searching for links by rating. The character "r" combined with <, >, or = are used to specify ratings. For example, to search for links that are rated above 40 type "r>40" in the search field. Search by rating can be combined with term searching. For example, to search for links rated above 40 that also contain the word "engine" in the notes panel, URL, or title, type "engine r>40" in the search field. It is also possible to search for a specific range of ratings. For example, to search for links rated above 60 but less than 90, enter "r>60 r<90" in the search field.
Customizing Search
Searches can be further customized via multiple options available in the "Search Options" menu accessed from the Edit menu or down arrow next to the
button on the Search Bar.
Search For
The user can specify whether to search for all the words, any words, or the exact phrase in the search memo by selecting the corresponding option from the "Search For" item in the "Search Options" menu.
Case Sensitive
Case sensitivity can be turned on or off by checking or unchecking the "Case Sensitive" option in the "Search Options" menu.
Search Fields
The fields of the links that are searched are determined by which of the "Search Title," "Search URL," and "Search Notes," options are checked in the "Search Options" menu.
Item Type
The type of item to search (folders, web links, and shortcuts) can be specified by checking the corresponding items in the "Item Types to Search" menu in the "Search Options" menu.
Search Scope
Specify whether to search all items in a file or a selected group of items via the "Scope of Search" menu in the "Search Options" menu. Choose between "Search Selection," "Search All," and "Auto." When "Auto" is checked, the search will default to a selection search if multiple items are selected. The search will default to a search of all items if only one item is selected.
Search Results
Search results can be displayed in list format in a popup dialog window or indicated by selection in the NetVisualize window. When "Open Results Window" is selected in the "Show Search Results" menu of the "Search Options" menu, a dialog window displays the items that match the search criteria. Jump from an item in the list to the corresponding item in the Link Explorer Panel by selecting the list item and clicking the "Jump" button in the Search Results dialog window. When "Select Matching Items" is checked in the "Show Search Results" menu, items that match the search criteria will be highlighted in the NetVisualize window.
