Import Favorites or Bookmarks
NetVisualize supports importing Internet Explorer favorites, Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape bookmarks, Opera Hotlist bookmarks, and NetVisualize favorites files.
When NetVisualize is initially opened, a dialog window appears prompting the user to import Internet Explorer Favorites. If the user clicks the "Yes" button, thereby proceeding with the import, the user's Internet Explorer Favorites are appended to the default sample file that opens when NetVisualize is first initialized. To import Internet Explorer Favorites in a new file, select "New" from the File menu and proceed with the import as described below.
Internet Explorer favorites, Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape bookmarks, and Opera Hotlist bookmarks files can be imported via the "Import" option found in the File menu. When importing Internet Explorer favorites, the favorites file is automatically located and imported, unless the "Automatically locate Internet Explorer favorites for import" option is unchecked in the Preferences dialog, File tab.
The user must manually locate the bookmarks.htm file when importing Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape bookmarks. The default directory for the bookmark.htm file in older versions of Netscape is "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Navigator" for Netscape Navigator or "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users" followed by your user name for Netscape Communicator. Newer versions of Firefox, Mozilla, and Netscape may save the bookmarks.html file in a folder such as "C:\Documents and Settings\{Windows Username}\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{Profile Name}", or "C:\Documents and Settings\{Windows Username}\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\{Profile Name}," or in a subfolder of one of these folders. In order for the Application Data folder to be visible, it may be necessary to enable the "Show hidden files and folders" option in Windows Explorer. This option can be accessed in Windows Explorer by selecting the Tools menu, Folder Options menu item, View tab, and then looking under the Advanced Settings section of the dialog.
The Opera Hotlist bookmarks file ("opera6.adr" for Opera 6 and Opera 7) must also be located manually. The default directory for the Opera Hotlist bookmarks file is "C:\Program Files\Opera", or if individual Opera profiles are enabled, the default directory may be something like "C:\Documents and Settings\{Windows Username}\Application Data\Opera\Opera\profile".
After selecting the import format the Confirm dialog opens from which the user can specify whether to import the file at the root of the open NetVisualize Favorites file or into the currently selected folder.
It is possible to have multiple NetVisualize Favorites Files (.nvf files). In some cases where multiple NetVisualize Favorites Files are in use, it is necessary to merge the files. This can be done using the NetVisualize Favorites File import feature. First make sure the target NetVisualize Favorites File (the one that should contain the merged results) is open in NetVisualize. Then choose the NetVisualize Favorites File option from the Import submenu of the File menu. A file dialog will be displayed to allow the source NetVisualize Favorites File (the file to be imported) to be selected.
Options to only import links that do not already exist in the file and to exclude empty folders when importing are available from the File tab in the Preferences dialog.
After importing is complete, the number of links imported is displayed in a popup window.
